Disaster Response Plan Georgia Transmission Corporation has a Disaster Response Plan to assist in emergencies affecting the power system. The plan, known as the DRP, describes the organization, facilities and procedures that will allow Georgia Transmission to respond promptly, safely and efficiently to system damage or abnormal conditions. The DRP contains two response components that are closely linked:
The two components may be activated individually or together depending on the nature of the emergency. When both kinds of response are needed, the DRP organization functions as a single unit to restore power throughout the electric system.
The DRP has the following major goals for emergency response:
Scope of the DRP The DRP provides guidance for the actions and notifications required in preparation for an emergency, during the emergency and after the emergency. The DRP covers all types of emergencies, such as ice storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorist acts and environmental disasters. The main purpose of the DRP is to respond to emergencies that affect the power systems of Georgia Transmission Corporation and the EMCs. The DRP may also be implemented when Georgia Transmission or the EMCs are requested to provide mutual aid to neighboring utilities when emergencies occur on their power systems. |
