Integrated Transmission System To deliver the most cost-effective power to the state's EMCs, GTC participates in a statewide network called the Integrated Transmission System (ITS). The ITS, one of the few statewide transmission systems in the nation, allows us to share transmission lines and substations with Georgia's other major participating transmission suppliers. Individual transmission lines and substations are owned and maintained by the individual participants, but they are planned and operated as one system. The participants are Georgia Transmission, Georgia Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities. Customer Advantages This arrangement benefits customers because it eliminates the costly duplication of transmission facilities and makes competition between power suppliers economically possible. Plus, the system gives each supplier access to all back-up equipment in case of emergency. Consequently, customers of Georgia Transmission Corporation are always assured a reliable source of power. These resources, which include approximately 16,000 miles of transmission line, enable us to offer all customers dependable service at the lowest possible price. |
