Georgia Transmission Promotes Keith Daniel to Vice President
TUCKER, Ga. -- Lilburn resident Keith Daniel has been promoted to vice president of transmission policy at Georgia Transmission Corporation, a not-for-profit electric company that delivers bulk power over high-energy electric lines to 39 of the state's 42 electric member cooperatives.
Mr. Daniel joined Tucker-based Georgia Transmission in 1988 as a planning engineer, and has served as director of transmission policy since December 2003. His promotion marks the elevation of transmission policy to one of seven vice presidential functions.
Having served in transmission policy since June 2002, Mr. Daniel has managed regulatory issues, advised executives on strategic decisions and handled negotiations with external parties. He is a registered professional engineer who previously served in several planning positions at the company. Prior to joining GTC, he was an electrical maintenance engineer with Southwire Company.
"Keith's public policy knowledge and corporate experience will help guide our company's future," said Mike Smith, president and chief executive officer. "He has done a great job of helping us maneuver through federal electric transmission actions brought on by increased competition, the Northeast blackout and other issues. He has also skillfully negotiated important decisions, ensuring the continued delivery of reliable, cost-effective transmission services to our EMCs."
In 2002 and 2003, Mr. Daniel represented GTC during discussion regarding a proposed regional transmission organization in the Southeast, an important-transmission related federal initiative that was suspended over jurisdictional issues.
Mr. Daniel, his wife, Pamela, and three sons live in Lilburn. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University. He was raised in Stone Mountain, and is a graduate of Clarkston High School. Mr. Daniel is a member of the Brookwood Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.
