Is it safe to live near transmission lines?

Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs), like the ones emitted by power lines, surround us every day and are produced by lights, motors, television sets, coffee makers and other devices that use electricity. Numerous EMF studies have been conducted during the past 30 years to determine if exposure to EMF is harmful. More than 20 scientific review panels have analyzed this body of research, and none of these studies has established a cause-and-effect relationship between EMF and any harmful health effects. Scientific literature on this subject is available at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. GTC officials can provide additional sources of information.
